Airborn Post 5
The book is getting more interesting than before. After they realize this must be the island that Kate's grandfather had seen kate decides she must go find evidence of the existance of the winged cats that her grandfather wrote about. Matt resists going with her but he knows she will get lost in the dense forest and he was off duty so, he went after her. They walked around in the forest for quite a while and Matt started to get worried. He tried to get Kate to turn back by noting that there could be vicious and/or posinous animals around. She assures them that tropical forest have no such things. However, later they see a red snake that Kate thinks could be poisonous. It jumps at them and they scream and run away. The little red bugger jumps at them and keeps persuing, jumping all the way. They run for a while and then Kate yells that they need to get in a tree to escape certain doom. They see one with broad branches and quickly climb up, just in the nik of time to get out of reach of the red devil. It finally gives up when they keep moving higher up the tree. Once they see that the snake is no longer trying to reach them they turn around and see something amazing. They see a skeleton of an animal, claws clenched, wings tucked in, and cat scull staring at them, the animal from Kate's grandfather's journal.
Airborn Post 4
Now, while the ship is on it's decline, the crew men are not making repairs fast enough because the gashes are so large and the holes are so numerous. Matt Cruse is also working near Lunardi, the boy who had taken the position he was supposed to get as apprentice sail maker and has to help him because Lunardi gets turned upside down in his harness while patching the hydrium cells. They get very close to the sea and are trying to stay aloft for a very long time when suddenly, an island appears in the distance and they make a daring landing on a sandy beach next to a lagoon on the island. When they arrive, everyone exits the ship and the captain gives a speach about how there will be enough hydrium to lift off again and, that people need to be a little patient while they unload cargo so they can lift off once more. The people are all sitting around not doing anything while the crewmen unload. After part of the unloading process Baz, Matt's friend and him are sent off to find a stream because they had dumped almost all of their balast and drinking water during their attempt to not sink to the bottom of the ocean. While on their way they see Kate taking notes in her grandfathers journal. Once they find the stream Baz goes back alone and Matt goes to talk with Kate. She tells him she thinks this may be the island her grandfather had seen on his trip. Matt is very sceptical but, after remembering a description of the landscape of the island he declares "We are here".

This book is at a pretty much constant pace of how long it is before something crazy happens again. There are now Pirates boarding the airship. The pirate captain's name is like zspireglas or something. I can not find the book at the moment. Anyway, the pirates come up in a tiny black airship and board the ship. They all have guns and the Aurora is only allowed one rifle so they do not stand a chance. The pirates proceed to have the crew wake up all the passengers and steal all their valuables. They then leave as promised but, not before killing the communications specialist who had tried to send a distress signal. They start to detach their ship from the aurora but there is a huge gust of wind. The small, black airship is sent right into the side of the aurora and their propellers get caught up in the auroras outer shell. They tear right through a huge chunk of the outer fabric and also through all the cells holding hydrium which is the gas keeping the ship in the air. The ship is loosing altitude and the sail makers plus Matt Cruse are frantically trying to repair the gas cells so that the ship stops loosing altitude. That's all for now.

Airborn post 2
Ok, so the book is really good. I haven't had many chances to read because of ski practice and what not. But what I have read has been pretty good. Anyway, the book skips forward to a year later and Mat Cruse is on another voyage to Sydney. They lift off and soon a couple passengers in a strange flying machine are requesting a landing. They were very important so they do a BA landing and get the passengers aboard. It turns out that it’s a girl named Kate and her chaperone. She is about Mat's age and she is cool but her chaperone is just annoying. He soon finds out that she is the granddaughter of the man who they rescued a year earlier and she has come on the ship to see the "winged creatures" that her grandfather supposedly saw. She gives Mat her grandfather's journal to read and it says that he saw animals that are always flying and never touch the ground. They have fur instead of feathers, they look like cats with wings, and they even give birth in the air. Later he talks to her about it but he is skeptical because near the end stuff became inconsistent and the grandfather started making drawings of the birds with different faces and stuff and it looked more like he was going crazy than anything. She thinks he's totally wrong but they don't get too mad over it. That’s all I've read so far. I'm excited to find out more on these creatures and if they are actually real.

Airborn post 1
For my outside reading book for quarter two I chose the book Airborn by Kenneth Oppel. When I first saw my sister buy and read this book by the next day I thought "Wow, what a loser," as usual. However it was getting further into quarter two and I still didn't even have ideas for a book and my sister recommended Airborn to me so, I reluctantly agreed. Unlike some of my sisters other books, this one started out strong and had an actually intellectual writing style. The story had all the elements I liked to have pulled me in. I eventually came to like it and am enjoying the story. The main storyline so far is that this guy, Mat Cruse, is fifteen and is working as a cabin boy on a luxury airship called the Aurora. One night he is on watch duty in the crow's nest late at night and spots a hot air balloon in distress in the middle of the ocean. He is later picked as the person who performs a daring rescue which entails him swinging over to the gondola, hooking the balloon up to the ships ropes and cutting the flight lines of the balloon that was damaged and was collapsing on an automatic timed burner. The man he saves is unconscious and is not doing well. When mat goes to check up on the man in the infirmary, the man wakes and says "Did you see them?" says some weird stuff and then the doctor comes in because the man starts freaking out. He soon dies and I haven’t read past that.

The Road soundtrack
I think that "Hourglass" by lamb of god would make a great addition to The Road soundtrack because well, this bassically describes the story. It is either the strangest coincidence or they based their story off each other or something but, the lyrics are perfect for any scene where the man is coughing or they are looking out at the burnt landscape. The entire song is about the appocalypse comming and how its too late to turn back. First, the song says "Each dawn another curse, every breath a twisting blade" that would correspond directly to the man and his coughing fits that lead to bleading. The song would be well placed when the author writes "Slogging to the edge of the road with his back to the child where he stood bent with his hand on his knees, coughing...". The ending of the song where the artist sings "The ashes of the wake, it's only getting worse" would be good with like a pan view of them looking at the destroyed and ash country. I could go on about how well the lyrics fit in but these are two prettey good examples of why "Hourglass" by Lamb of God.
